Warsaw European Forum 2000 - "The European Labour Market"
Warsaw May 8-13

Organizer: The Student Union of Warsaw School of Economics Patrons of the conference are The Polish Deputy Prime Minister the Minister of Labour Mr Longin Komolowski and the Principle of the Warsaw School of Economics, Professor Marek Rocki.

The key issue of the conference will be the labour market in the global, European and Polish contexts. A number of lectures and discussions will be prepared in the following fields:
-- International corporations on the labour market;
-- International labour market;
-- Education and its role in employment;
-- New Information Technologies and the process of creating the labour market.

The purpose of the conference is to specify the present situation, dynamics and forecasts concerning the labour market. We will try to measure the significance of ongoing globalisation to the young labour forces. We will try to find out whether the present profile of a graduate meets the market demand, and how companies should motivate their employees to an effective performance.

The scientific part of the conference will consist of lectures held by specialists representing the Polish Ministry of Labour, representatives of private Polish and international enterprises as well as the lecturers of our School. The lectures will be accompanied by workshops.

In the cultural part of the Forum, the following events will be included: “Juwenalia 2000” – the biggest Warsaw students’ festival of the year; sightseeing of the monuments of Warsaw (The Old Town, Lazienki Park or Wilanow Royal Palace & Gardens etc.) and trip to Cracow, “the Polish City of Culture 2000”.

Great fun is guaranteed!

In the application process 35 students will be chosen from all applicants.

Almost all costs of WEF 2000 will be paid for (including accommodation and food), you will only be requested to pay 50 EUR (after you have arrived) for the participation in WEF 2000.

We hope that by participating in the conference you will better understand the labour market of Europe and its changes, which will make it easier for you to work in the international environment in the future. However, it will also help in breaking through the barriers resulting from our background and dealing with co –operation in an effective way.

To achieve our purpose we have prepared a special programme for you.

Sunday, May 7th
Guests arrive.

Monday, May 8th
10:00–11:30 Lectures on labour market in global and European aspects. The situation of Poland in this context.
12:00 –13:00 Welcome speech in WSE Main Auditorium.
13:30 –15:00 Opening party in “Jajko” Professor Club.
15:00 –17:00 Sightseeing of Warsaw: The Old Town and Royal Castle.
17:00 –19:00 Free time
19:00 –20:00 Supper.
20:00 -... Party at one of our student clubs, called “Holiday”.

Tuesday, May 9th
10:00 –12:00 Discussion on “Contemporary transformations on the labour market –a threat or chance to the youth”.
12:00 –12:30 Break.
12:30 –13:30, 13:30 –14:00 Youth’s aspirations related to future employment, the profiles of education
14:00 –15:30 Dinner.
15:30 –18:00 New Information Technologies –their influence on the shaping of labour market.
19:00 –20:00 Supper.
20:00 -... International Party at another of our student clubs, called “PARK”.

Wednesday, May 10th
10:30 –14:00 Meeting with International Affairs Vice –rector of the WSE, professor Nowakowski. Interpersonal Workshops led by specialists from training companies.
16:00 –18:00 Visit at the Seym (the lower house of Polish Parliament)
19:00 –21:00 The ballet.

Thursday, May 11th
9:50 –13:30 The employment policy of international corporations, the flow of Human Resources within the corporations. The influence of international corporations on the labour market. Three companies will be holding their presentations:
9:50 –10:50 The first presentation
10:50 –11:10 Break
11:10–12:10 The second presentation
12:10 –12:30 Break
12:30 –13:30 The third presentation
13:30 –16:00 Dinner Late afternoon Trip to Cracow

Friday, 12th May
This day will be spent on sightseeing of Cracow. We will visit the famous monuments of the city, such as the Wawell Royal Castle, The Old Town, the Jewish quarter, the oldest Polish university and so on. Return to Warsaw is scheduled for late evening.

Saturday & Sunday, 13th – 14th May
Participation in Polish -European Meetings (Saturday).
Participation in Juwenalia 2000 – the biggest Warsaw students’ festival of the year.
In the evening our guests departure.
